To realize this book, we worked with an extensive collection of spreads featuring stunning illustrations by Tânia. We saw it as our mission to employ a "supportive" design one that functions as a connective thread, allowing the artwork to take center stage. We selected typography that subtly echoes the illustrative style and maintained a restrained graphic aesthetic throughout. For the cover and the table of contents, we translated Tânia’s own collage techniques into a graphic language, creating a cohesive visual narrative from start to finish.
The result is a vibrant, evocative cover and a highly visual table of contents that invites the reader in.
"See, taste, smell, hear, feel. After primary education, sensory skills are rarely trained directly, yet most professionals develop these skills instinctively through experience. Come to Your Senses offers direct exercises to help you and your students sharpen the senses for both professional and personal life. Sensory learning is a pedagogical method focused on exploring sensory awareness and critically reflecting on its importance in education, research, and professional practice."
Based on exercises conducted at Maastricht University between 2021 and 2024, this book serves as a manual for implementing sensory learning within and beyond academia. It restores balance to higher education by integrating sensory skills into the existing curriculum through designed learning units, tools, and activities."
We were fortunate to have the full trust of Tânia, Emelie, Elena, and Sara. The cover remained virtually unchanged from the very first sketch, a testament to a collaboration where every element fell perfectly into place. It was an exceptionally smooth process, resulting in a finished book within just a few months.
